Posted in three Facebook groups asking about Vietnam evisa timing. Got twelve different answers. Here’s what I’ve learned after seven trips.

The Official Portal

Government site says 3 working days. Reality: anywhere from 2 to 10 days. Applied on Monday? Maybe Wednesday, maybe next Monday. Applied Thursday afternoon? Kiss your weekend goodbyeโ€”nothing moves until Tuesday at earliest.

No expedite button. No phone number. Email replies take 72+ hours if they come at all.

Standard Agencies

Quote 2-3 days, deliver in 2-4 usually. More predictable because they batch applications and know which offices are faster. Run you $35-50. Still not urgent-proof.

Urgent Vietnam Visa Services

This is the tier that exists for emergencies. Twenty-four hours or less. Some offer 4-8 hour processing for extra. Costs $70-120 depending on speed.

Variables Nobody Mentions

Your application day matters enormously. Friday submission? Processing offices closed Saturday-Sunday. Vietnamese holidays? Tแบฟt shuts everything for a week minimum. Reunification Day, National Dayโ€”build in buffers.

Document quality kills timelines too. Blurry passport photo? Rejection. Wrong date format? Rejection. Each rejection restarts your clock from zero.

My Current System

Work trips with fixed dates: urgent processing, always. The $80 premium is nothing compared to rebooking flights and explaining to clients why I’m not there.

Flexible vacation with two-week buffer? Official portal is fine. Save the money.

Anything in between? I add 50% to whatever timeline they quote and work backwards from my flight. If the math doesn’t work, I go urgent immediately.

Stressing about visa approval at 2am isn’t a vacation.
