How the urgent Vietnam e-visa works

Fill in one form. Passport details, arrival date, port of entry and the speed you need. It takes about five minutes on a phone.
Upload two images. A photo of your passport’s data page and a plain portrait photo. We check both before anything is submitted, because a rejected photo costs more time than any other mistake.
We submit and chase it. Your application goes to the Vietnam Immigration Department through the fast-track channel for the speed you chose.
The e-visa arrives by email. It is a PDF. Print it or keep it on your phone, then show it at airline check-in and again at Vietnamese immigration.

What you need to apply

A passport valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date, with a blank page.
A clear photo or scan of the passport data page, all four corners visible and no glare across the text.
A recent portrait photo: face forward, plain light background, no glasses.
Your intended entry date and the airport, land border or seaport where you will enter.
An email address you can open from the airport.

You do not need a flight ticket, a hotel booking or an invitation letter to get a tourist e-visa.

Why the government portal cannot be rushed

You can apply on your own at the official portal, evisa.gov.vn, for US$25. If you have a week or more, that is what we would tell a friend to do. The portal runs at one speed: the stated processing time is about three working days, in busy months it often stretches to five, and it does not process on weekends or Vietnamese public holidays. There is no rush option to pay for and no one to call when a photo is rejected on day three.

An urgent service exists for the situation where that timeline no longer fits: a flight booked at short notice, a visa you thought you did not need, or an application that has sat at “processing” while your departure date got closer.

Read the clock in Vietnam time

This is the detail that catches most travellers. Processing happens in Vietnam, on Vietnam time (UTC+7), during the Immigration Department’s working week of Monday to Friday. A “4-hour” service ordered on a Friday evening in New York is being ordered on a Saturday morning in Hanoi, when the office is shut.

That is why our form only offers the speeds that can still be delivered at the moment you apply. If the office is closed, you will see the weekend and holiday option instead of a 4-hour promise that nobody could keep.

Around Tet (Lunar New Year, late January or February), Reunification Day and Labour Day (30 April to 1 May) and National Day (2 September), the office closes for several days in a row. If your trip falls near those dates, apply before the closure rather than during it.

Do you need a visa at all?

Check before you pay. Citizens of a number of countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan and South Korea, can enter Vietnam without a visa for stays of up to 45 days. United States, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and Indian passport holders do need a visa. The rules differ by passport and change from time to time, so use our visa exemption list with the exact terms for each group. If you are exempt and staying within the limit, you do not need us.

Where the e-visa is accepted

A Vietnam e-visa is valid for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, and is open to citizens of every country. Since the December 2025 expansion the approved list has 83 ports of entry: 17 airports, including Noi Bai (Hanoi), Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City), Da Nang, Cam Ranh (Nha Trang) and Phu Quoc, as well as 27 land border crossings and 39 seaports. The application asks for the ports where you intend to enter and leave, and an e-visa is only valid at ports on that list, so check your crossing before you book, especially if you are arriving overland from Laos, Cambodia or China.

How fast can I get an emergency Vietnam visa?

The fastest option gives you an approval in roughly 30 minutes and the e-visa document in 1 to 1.5 hours, on a working day in Vietnam. On weekends and public holidays there is a separate same-day service.

Can I get a Vietnam visa on the same day?

Yes. The 1-hour and 4-hour services are both same-day on Vietnamese working days, and the weekend and holiday service covers the days when the immigration office is closed.

Is an urgent e-visa different from a normal one?

No. It is the same e-visa issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department, with the same validity and the same rules at the border. Only the processing speed is different.

Can I get a visa on arrival instead?

Not by simply turning up. Visa on arrival in Vietnam requires a pre-approval letter arranged before you fly, and it only works at airports. For almost every traveller the e-visa is simpler, and airlines will ask to see a visa or e-visa at check-in.

What happens if I land without a visa?

In practice you rarely get that far, because the airline refuses boarding at check-in. If you are standing at the desk now, message us on WhatsApp with your passport photo and flight time and we will tell you honestly whether the 1-hour service can still make it.

Do you work on weekends and Vietnamese holidays?

Yes, through the weekend and holiday service. It costs more because the application has to be handled outside normal office hours.

What if my visa is refused?

Visa decisions are made only by the Vietnam Immigration Department, and no agency can guarantee an approval. If you cancel before we submit your application, you get a full refund. If the refusal is caused by a mistake on our side, we refund in full or resubmit free of charge. The US$25 government fee cannot be refunded once an application has been submitted.
